Mount Hyjal was off-limits for most of Classic's life -- a raid entrance guarded by a phased, invite-only Caverns of Time scenario, not a zone you could just walk into. Forever changes that. The mountain is opening up as a full endgame zone, set some time after Archimonde's death at the climax of the Third War, and it's built around a simple question: what actually happens to a place after the demon army camped on it is gone.
A forest still healing
The pitch from the Deep Dive panel is recovery, not aftermath-as-set-dressing. The World Tree's roots are still standing, wildlife is creeping back in, and the developers have specifically pointed at wild gods as part of the story here -- which tracks, since Hyjal has always been thick with druidic and Cenarion Circle history. Expect the zone's questlines to lean on that: less "clean up the battlefield," more "help something that was almost killed start growing again."
You'll reach the zone through Darkwhisper Gorge, which the panel called out by name as a specific waypoint rather than just flavor text, so it's worth watching for as a landmark rather than just another canyon to run through. Darkwhisper Gorge is the demon-infested canyon in the far south of Winterspring that has served as the secret entry point to Mount Hyjal.

The scars didn't all close
Recovery is the headline, but the panel was clear that not everything in Hyjal healed clean. There are pockets where the fighting left something worse behind than craters -- lingering corruption, hostile wildlife, and (per the framing) dangers that are actively still a problem rather than historical set dressing. If the zone's tone splits the way Classic zones usually do, expect the "recovering" areas to feel more like a druidic leveling zone and the "still wrong" areas to feel more like a rougher, higher-danger detour -- but that's a reasonable guess based on how the panel described it, not a confirmed zone split.
What there is to actually do
Confirmed so far: multiple questlines, a handful of reputations to grind, and a mix of solo and group content rather than a zone that leans entirely one way. There's also a neutral goblin port somewhere in the zone -- goblins famously don't care who's shooting at whom as long as the gold's good, so a neutral trading post in a contested recovery zone tracks with how Classic already handles goblin neutrality elsewhere.
The payoff at the summit
Hyjal hosts two raids, and they're not launching together. Hyjal Summit is the 20-player raid built around the mountain itself -- official messaging calls it one of Warcraft's most important locations, and it's confirmed to ship with its own tier set and at least one legendary. The Barrow Deeps is a separate 10-player raid, night elf-themed and tied to Illidan's history as a former prison, and it's explicitly slated to launch later in the roadmap rather than alongside Hyjal Summit at launch.
Confidence check: the zone's existence, its post-Archimonde framing, Darkwhisper Gorge, the neutral goblin port, and both raids (including the Hyjal Summit tier set/legendary and the Barrow Deeps' later roadmap slot) come directly from Blizzard's own BlizzCon 2026 Deep Dive panel and recap. The wild-gods story hook and the "some areas are still actively dangerous" framing are also from the panel, but light on specifics -- treat the exact shape of that as a direction, not a confirmed quest chain, until beta footage shows it in motion.
